 TURN ASIDE

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law... and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, & came... to Horeb...  and he looked & behold, the bush burned with fire, & the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside & see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, & said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

In this season there’s been a flashfire around issues of injustice toward people of color.  Like burning bushes in the desert, there have been many of these race-inequity flash-fires before. Also like burning bushes in the desert,  these race-oriented fires usually flare up & burn out pretty quickly.   But, this current one keeps burning. Protests are still happening all across American & all around the world. Most peaceful. Some not so much.  Still, God desires to speak to his people about his purposes in all this when we turn aside to take a closer look.

Start this prayer journey

by turning aside to give

God your attention.

PRAYER PROMPTS

1

Get Nearer

Take a minute or two to do nothing except draw near to God.

Go ahead, close your eyes & take time to turn your heart toward God & draw close right now.  Don't move ahead until you do.

2

Disarm & Determine

As you move toward God in prayer, surrender to Him preconceived ideas you have about people of color, what you think is wrong with, & what you think ought to be done about the current flames around racial issues.

Determine to stand before this fire to explore what God is up to in it - To hear what God is highlighting, saying & wanting to do about it.

3

Open Up

God, open my eyes to what you need me to see from this fire.

God, open my ears to hear what you want to speak from this fire.

God, prepare my heart to encounter Jesus as justice.
